I feel sick. The atrocious book I wrote about in my last blog post is for sale through both chapters and amazon.ca. I have called both to let them know but I can't believe that they would sell such evil garbage.
Sadly, I bet they don't even know. in most cases, an organization that big probably carries a bit of everything from the catalogue lines of nearly every publisher they can, without checking critically about it. They would only really be sure to avoid publishers of things like p0rn, and the publishers of illegal material aren't putting out a catalogue, so I'm sure they feel perfectly happy and safe doing it that way. it's easier, too, to avoid decisions, so a cheaper business model and easier to defend.
None of which suggests it's right or okay, but that is unfortunately an all-too-common business stance to take, isn't it?
